The Doc–also known as mixtape master Zanimal on the interwebs–and I met over music. Under the blazing Coachella sun and the evening haboobs, we danced to set after set of tunes for that moment. We saw French djs no one else wanted to see and were catatonic at FlyLo’s visual stories under the desert sky.

Music has been our thing. Our constant. And so it felt fitting to make my first homage to our shared love, and our relationship. Some of the tracks are ones we’ve danced to hard; some we heard live and in that moment, were a special thing we shared, like when we broke out in dance together as if no one was watching at a Classixx gig in the Paradise so many years back. Other ones remind me of some of the best road trips I’ve ever taken in my life–snaking our way through desolate red rocks or slowly creeping down the Moki Dugway. Others I tried to mix as I remembered them from ones Doc has made–particularly a string of tracks on a spring mix we listened to during my first trip out to visit him in Phoenix. It was a time.
