While my friends and I have often said over beers that the Ramones are “the easy choice” when talking about punk music (you know, the band everyone knows to be punk), a Thursday like today begs for the “obvious” or “easy choice” for one, distinct reason:

it’s a fucking phenomenal day. The sun is shining. The snow is still as pure and white as the day it came down. And when it’s a fucking phenomenal day, there’s nothing humble blogger seeks more than some groove.

I tell you there is no finer place to look for said groove in a punk track than The Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”. The hook is brilliant for dancing. And it’s the kind of track that begs you to dance–to dance with anyone… or that oblivious guy across from you that you’ve been pleading with in your head–“just tell me to dance with you and ask me to be your boyfriend.”

And even if we can’t get that boyfriend-girlfriend thing to happen, we can still dance. Let’s dance, shall we?
